Congratulations to Olympic champion Julien Alfred! Alfred of Saint Lucia made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by winning the gold medal in the women's 100m race. Her victory is notable not only because she secured Saint Lucia's first-ever Olympic medal, but also because she set a new national record with a time of 10.72 seconds. Edging American favourites Sha'Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson, Alfred claimed gold wearing PUMA’s evoSPEED TOKYO NITRO track (PUMA signed the sprint champion in 2023).
Originally launched on July 7, 2020 the evoSPEED TOKYO NITRO track was specifically designed to meet the needs of elite sprinters. Equipped with NITRO Elite foam technology in the forefoot and a full-length Pebax plate for optimal propulsion and performance, the model also features a specialised traction pattern with eight pins providing grip on the track. On the uppers, the track and field shoe utilises a single-piece MATRYX material infused with carbon fibre threads. The design ensure a secure fit and supports breathability for the athlete’s feet.
Over in the other lanes, Sha'Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson, who secured silver and bronze in the women’s 100m, wore the Nike Air Zoom Maxfly track spikes. The model incorporates a stiff Pebax plate and two Zoom Air units under the forefoot. Richardson secured the silver medal with a time of 10.87 seconds and Jefferson took bronze with a time of 10.92 seconds.
